I want to make a movie and need help with cameras?

I want to make a film but don't know the kind of camera or camera's I should get. I suppose I'm trying to get that "movie" look. I wonder is it good enough to get a pro-sumer model or do I need to save for years to get a more expensive camera? I need a camera to get great shots from a tripod, steady cam, and moving around hand held or mounted to a car. I just want to make a great looking Indy film, please help me if you can. Thanks
